Boehringer Ingelheim – Building Global Supply Chain Excellence with PMI

Developing supply chain capabilities across a global organization
Since 2019, PMI Production Management Institute has partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim to strengthen supply chain capabilities across its global organization.
The goal was clear: create a common foundation of supply chain knowledge, develop professional expertise and establish a shared language across functions, countries and experience levels.
A comprehensive learning journey
Together, Boehringer Ingelheim and PMI developed a broad Supply Chain Academy approach combining internationally recognized APICS certifications, Supply Chain Essentials training, e-learning and practice-oriented learning formats.
A key element of the program has been the use of The Fresh Connection business simulation, allowing participants to experience end-to-end supply chain management in practice. Working across Sales, Operations, Purchasing and Supply Chain, participants learn how decisions in one function affect the performance of the entire supply chain.
The program combines:
APICS CPIM and CSCP certification training
PMI Supply Chain Essentials
Classroom and virtual instructor-led training
Digital learning through a dedicated e-learning academy
Business simulations and interactive workshops
From individual learning to organizational capability
Since the start of the partnership, hundreds of Boehringer Ingelheim supply chain professionals worldwide have participated in the program.
Beyond developing individual expertise, the initiative has helped establish a common supply chain language and strengthen cross-functional thinking and collaboration across the global organization.
Participants have also successfully applied their skills in external supply chain competitions, including the Young Professionals Day and international The Fresh Connection challenges.
A long-term partnership for supply chain excellence
The collaboration demonstrates how structured, continuous capability development can go beyond training individual employees. By combining internationally recognized standards with practical application, organizations can build a common understanding of supply chain management and strengthen their ability to manage increasingly complex end-to-end supply chains.
PMI is proud to have supported Boehringer Ingelheim on this journey since 2019. “For Boehringer Ingelheim, we have been training supply chain professionals worldwide since 2019. Even throughout the pandemic, the motivation of participants and the strong top management support were always there. That also makes it fun for us and our trainers!” Andrea Walbert, Managing Director, PMI Production Management Institute.
