Sustainability at the Supply Chain Awards 2022 in Frankfurt - hosted by PWC & Logistik HEUTE

Our review of the Supply Chain Awards on November 15, 2022: supporting program with invited guests and the finalist teams.

This year‘s Supply Chain Awards in Frankfurt on Nov 15, 2022 were enhanced with a supporting program of guest speakers and panel discussions around the topic „Can excellent Supply Chain Management find answers to any crisis?“ Sustainability and resilience were present in any conference program detail. And it was all about people and teams! Our managing partner Andrea Walbert was also giving insights into supply chain sustainability and its application during the world café sessions and at the company booth. As key note speech Douglas Kent, Senior Vice President of ASCM addressed the same topic, but with a focus on „Managing the Supply Chain Global Crisis“, where he also introduced the new SCOR DS model.

But the highlight of this event were the pitches of the finalist companies (BSH, KNORR BREMSE, SCHAEFFLER, and MEDIAMARKT SATURN). The key messages are summarized below:

  • BSH: Sabine Schwaiger & Catrin Lampert: BSH has implemented a supply chain control tower in less than 1 year, with a small budget, and a project ROI <1 year. “No more PowerPoint!” got support from CSO and CMO. “Data is the new gold, the fuel of the company”
  • KnorrBremse: Thomas Rappl: “NextGen EU Distribution & Carbon Footprint Optimization Project”: In 4 years journey Knorr Bremse has transformed its European logistics footprint to optimize both efficiency & carbon footprint meeting future requirements using e.g. a digital twin.
  • MediaMarktSaturn: Joeri Kuik & Bart Op 't Veld: MediaMarkt/Saturn implemented an omnichannel Supply Chain. They had to reinvent themselves starting 2019 and asked themselves how they will create value in the future. The idea is a lighthouse concept - bring stores back to the neighborhood!
  • Schaeffler: Enrico Schlick & Christoph Strauß: Schaeffler implemented a transportation data cube. Challenges have been data checks, network consistency of price & time, rate validity. Their data quality decomposition was leading to a digital twin. Statement: ”Data is the new oil, but information is the fuel”.

The jury had the task to finally decide on the winner, the audience vote was also taken into consideration. Finally, Knorr Bremse won the award it, but all presented projects have clearly demonstrated how to create value through supply chain operations.
