At the ASCM Connect Europe Conference, our managing director Andrea Walbert alongside with Damodar Hegde, Head of Manufacturing Excellence at Coca Cola were speaking about “Coca Cola unleashing the power of digital training”.
Damodar and Andrea shared their experience of using the business simulation The Fresh Connection as part of the APICS CPIM (Certified in Planning & Inventory Management) certification program at Coca Cola to address the competencies required by supply chain professionals in today's volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) world. Overall, business simulations offer a dynamic and effective learning approach that enhances learners' knowledge, skills, and decision-making abilities in a practical and engaging manner.
And the feedback proves that experiential learning using this business simulation has given a huge boost to the motivation of learners: “Playing the business simulation was incredibly motivating and kept me engaged throughout the entire process of studying for the APICS CPIM certification. The competitive nature and gamified elements made it exciting, and I found myself fully invested in achieving the best results possible.”
The question, "What specific digital training or innovative practices do you believe have the greatest potential to transform and optimize supply chain operations, and why?" finally sparked a robust exchange of examples and references among the conference attendees.
In 2012, the introduction of business simulations as a vital component in PMI's corporate training initiatives and their integration into undergraduate lessons at Munich University of Applied Sciences marked the beginning of a "new era of education" for PMI. Since then, the focus of our educational programs has shifted from a knowledge-centered approach to experiential learning.
